The LA Rams made the Rams fanbase wait patiently for two days. The LA Rams made the Rams fanbase wade through 103 picks of the 2022 NFL Draft before choosing …

An offensive lineman?

Yes, that’s right. An offensive lineman. Newly arrived offensive coordinator Liam Coen and second-year offensive line coach Kevin Carberry have a new toy to play with as they reset this offense for a new season. The reactions that were reported out of their Hollywood Hills were not that of a subdued team that had just made an average selection. Oh no, the picture portrayed by the LA Rams staff’s reaction to landing Wisconsin’s Logan Bruss was that of pure elation.

At 104? With an offensive lineman?

Yes, that’s right. An offensive lineman.

Oftentimes, when a team makes the fanbase wait for several days before finally making a pick in the annual NFL Draft, there is a pretty significant risk of disappointment. If you had your heart set on one particular player in this draft or any draft, you are setting yourself up for disappointment. Of the first 105 picks made in the 2022 NFL Draft, the LA Rams have stepped up to the podium just once.

If this was simply a 105 set of players to choose from, you would have less than a one percent chance of finding joy in the LA Rams choice at 104. But the LA Rams did not have the chance at 103 of them before they ever stepped up to the podium. But the team scouting, data analytics, and personnel departments would hardly have noticed due to the hundreds (if not thousands) of potential NFL prospects that they had to sort through to arrive at their selection for 104.

And they arrived at the best fit for the team for their greatest need and found the best value at the 104th overall pick.  An offensive lineman?

Yes, that’s right. An offensive lineman.
