LA Rams Draft: 5 Reasons Logan Bruss deserved a ‘Pool Party’
By Bret Stuter
Reason I: Very versatile and athletic
When we discuss athleticism for an NFL offensive lineman, we have to keep in mind that the position that these prospects compete in emphasizes a completely different set of attributes than that of a wide receiver or running back.
But in that same breath, agility, speed, power, and dexterity all play vital roles in setting the foundation for an excellent NFL offensive lineman. So it’s that combination of genetics (nature) versus coaching and training (nurture) that blends together to transform that ideal prospect into that elite NFL combatant.
Is he a potential starter? Well, he certainly has the raw skillsets to compete for a starting role. But beyond the powerlifting and the sprinting, he is thoroughly accomplished at both offensive tackle and offensive guard, albeit on the right side of the offensive line. But as the LA Rams use their telescopic lens, they quickly see that RT Rob Havenstein is on the last year of his contract.
Offensive linemen are not a commodity. Despite the fact that the LA Rams seem to find starters late in the draft, the fact is that the Rams’ front office and scouts are a relatively tough bunch. Since the Rams organization had adopted the no-first-round-pick philosophy years ago, their scouting department has become finely attuned to a young prospect with all of the right raw attributes that the coaching staff can develop into an LA Rams offensive lineman.
