Okay, I know it’s probably not something many of the LA Rams fans want to hear right now. For some of you, there may never be a good time to consider this opportunity. But if the ultimate objective is creating the best possible roster for the least amount of money, then any and all options should be on the table.

The LA Rams should kick the tires on free-agent quarterback Nick Foles. That’s right. I believe that trading for former cornerback Troy Hill was inspired. A true win to the third power.  I think that kicking the tires on QB Nick Foles just makes sense. Yes, the same Nick Foles who played for the LA Rams in 2015. Well, not the same guy. He’s had a few years and snaps since then.

The LA Rams today are not the St. Louis Rams of 2015. Not even close. That Rams team finished with a record of 7-9, as did most of the Rams teams coached by HC Jeff Fisher. That offense featured a stellar running back Todd Gurley and not much else. It also featured quarterback Nick Foles.  Gurley would continue on with the St. Louis Rams, eventually traveling with them to Los Angeles and playing for the LA Rams through the 2019 NFL season. He was released at the end of that year.

Foles would sign with his former head coach Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016. In 2017, he would take over for Philadelphia Eagles’ injured quarterback Carson Wentz and lead the Eagles to a victory in Super Bowl LII. He would come in for relief of Wentz once more the following year, and lead the Eagles to a 4-1 record and a 1-1 postseason record. But his contract expired.

He would sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars for a lot of money, but no weapons. He was traded the following year to the Chicago Bears where he would remain and play sporadically for the next two seasons. But he was paid to start, a role that he has not realized for the past six seasons. Now, just like Todd Gurley from that Rams 2015 team, he has been released.

A Super Bowl-winning quarterback who has thrown for over 14,000 yards, 82 touchdowns, and 43 interceptions over his 10-year NFL career. He is on the street, looking for work. So what does this have to do with the LA Rams?

He is available right now for next to nothing. The LA Rams have just three quarterbacks on the roster. The Rams kicked the tires on QB Devlin “Duck” Hodges in 2021. Why not kick the tires on QB Nick Foles this year?
