Postseason presence

So why should the LA Rams have any interest at all? Nick Foles has not had the benefit of playing in a Sean McVay-designed offense. But he’s had some pretty good success under pressure in the past.  When Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Carson Wentz fell to injury in 2017, he stepped in and did pretty well. In fact, he’s played in and won SB LII against the New England Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady.

And he, much like the LA Rams of late, has a habit of beating Tom Brady. He defeated Tom Brady in Super Bowl LII. He defeated Tom Brady the first and last time he faced him as the starting quarterback, leading the Chicago Bears to a 20-19 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on October 8, 2020. In that game, Foles threw 30 of 42 passes for 243 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

On that afternoon, he threw 10 of 16 for 90 yards to wide receiver Allen Robinson.

The LA Rams are gunning to defend their NFL Championship. It seems fairly clear that they will need to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by the ancient one, Tom Brady, to do so. I may be the only one on the face of this planet to feel this way, but I’m more confident that the Rams do so with Nick Foles on the roster when that day happens.

Nick Foles is 4-2 in the playoffs, having thrown for 1,633 yards, 11 TDs, and five interceptions. He has also led his team to two fourth-quarter comebacks and two game-winning drives. Matthew Stafford has two fourth-quarter comebacks and three game-winning drives.

Foles is not young, will not flip scouts on their heads, and is not overly athletic. He is a seasoned veteran of the NFL who has found a way to cobble together 10 years of an NFL career because when he gets to the big games, he simply plays bigger games. The LA Rams learned that overlooked veterans can be the difference makers too.  Kicking the tires on Nick Foles is as risky as trying out Devlin “Duck” Hodges. If he doesn’t work out? He is released. If he does?

Well, don’t be surprised if Tom Brady re-retires.

Editor’s Note: Per The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue, the Rams do plan to add a fourth QB before training camp.

Why not make it a veteran who can win NFL games?

Trending. The LA Rams signed a gem in Cameron Dicker. But is he a kicker or punter?. light
