Running back

The LA Rams pay some positions on the roster quite handsomely, and therefore must find positional groups to slash costs. One such positional group is the running back position. Just to place everything into perspective, the Rams are tied with the New England Patriots spending the least on running backs in the entire NFL a mere $5.5 million. And the Rams will fall to last place after the Patriots sign RB Pierre Strong and RB Kevin Harris to contracts.

No. 164 – Notre Dame RB Kyren Williams – $782, 601

The LA Rams allowed veteran running back Sony Mitchell to test free agency simply because his estimated value is equal to all of the Rams running backs. That’s a pretty hefty number for the Rams to invest in one player.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Mitchell was a solid contributor. But with the selection of Kyren Williams, the Rams believe that they have the right personnel to match or exceed last year’s performance in the running game. I think they could do it. The team’s focus this offseason has been to smooth the rough edges, and I believe that the ground game is one that has plenty of attention.

Williams joins a Rams running back room that is in desperate need of rebounding this year. Williams will play a large part in that. Not only does he offer the perimeter potential of RB Darrell Henderson Jr., but he is also quite adept at powering forward between the tackles. If he can deliver that potential to the LA Rams this year, he will truly be a steal in this draft.
