The LA Rams are a bit of a mystery.
Clues are typically the stuff of whodunnit? movies. Whether it is a simple murder mystery to an all-out horror film, it’s those subtle but ever-present bits of information that are dropped for you along the way that helps to bind the entire plot together at the end of the movie or television show at the ‘big reveal’ scene. Then, and only then, does the audience finally catch up to the identity of the perpetrator.
While there is no murder mystery about the LA Rams right now, there is a bit of a puzzler that may require the services of a gumshoe, complete with the trench-coat and Fedora, to solve right now. The question is whether or not the LA Rams plan on signing wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
I believe that there are reasons to believe that the team will do so. Why?
Despite a rather robust wide receiver room in 2021, the Rams added veteran DeSean Jackson and drafted Tutu Atwell, Jacob Harris (for argument’s sake, he is a wide receiver in this scenario), and Ben Skowronek. As a result of the crowded position depth chart, the team lost second-year wide receiver, Trishton Jackson, to the Minnesota Vikings. But the team had plenty of receivers and even added another to the roster mid-season in Odell Beckham Jr.
Since that time, the LA Rams have lost veteran DeSean Jackson, Robert Woods, and Odell Beckham Jr. In the meantime, the Rams have added veteran wide receiver Allen Robinson and signed one undrafted free agent rookie by the name of Lance McCutcheon out of Montana State.
While there are no clear reasons to panic, it is a bit of an anomaly for the Rams to ignore an offensive position that is so clearly near and dear to the heart of head coach Sean McVay. The Rams currently have nine wide receivers on the roster heading into training camp. That seems a bit light for this team, considering that the team elected to roster six wide receivers to the 53-man roster to start the 2021 NFL season.
There’s always room for more. But right now, this roster feels as though it is a bit light at wide receiver. Could that mean that the team plans to sign OBJ to the roster? Well, as the magic eight-ball phrase goes:
“Signs point to yes.”
