LA Rams rumors building for season opener opponent, but who?

If you glance over the LA Rams 2022 season opponents, you could make an argument that the opponent on any given week warrants a prime-time television slot. From NFC West rivals, who flooded the NFL playoffs in 2021 with three teams, to AFC West teams that supercharged their rosters in time to be considered early favorites for playoff berths this year, the Rams have no easy uninteresting opponents.

In fact, the LA Rams appear to face the toughest 2022 NFL schedule. That is to be expected, as winning the division pits the team against the toughest teams from the previous year.  Complicating the matter is the fact that the AFC West Division teams have all made huge moves to improve their rosters, and the Rams face all four teams in 2022.

But the Rams open the season this year, and one of the big questions is who will the Rams face in Week 1? There is a push of fan sentiment for the opener to be against the Buffalo Bills, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Denver Broncos.

So who will it be?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The NFL fanbase would love to see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. the LA Rams open the 2022 NFL season. This game would pit the past two Super Bowl victors in a season opener slobberknocker that could foreshadow the NFC Championship contest. While a season opener would be wonderful, the television networks seem to be inclined to save this one for later in the season when the playoff push makes this game far more dramatic.

Besides, the latest rumor is that the Green Bay Packers will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1.

Buffalo Bills

There is a lot of fan sentiment backing this as the season opener. It could happen, as the two squared off for quite a thriller in the 2020 NFL season. Now, the Rams are the defending NFL Champions and the Bills are considered one of the AFC favorites to win the Super Bowl this year or at least represent their conference.

We know that the Bills host the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football the following week. That could put them in play for a TNF opener against the Rams, followed by a long week to prepare for Week 2 at home. At least one website believes rumors of the Bills vs Rams on Week 1 will happen.

Kansas City Chiefs

Are NFL fans prepared for the opening week fireworks of pitting the Kansas City Chiefs against the LA Rams? How can you follow up on that one? The current consensus is that the Chiefs will host the LA Chargers in Week 2 on Thursday Night Football. That would likely put them on the road in Week 1.   Since the LA Rams are slated to play the Chiefs in Kansas City, two TNF games at home seem highly unlikely.

So this one appears to be a no-go.

Denver Broncos

There is a growing sentiment that the NFL schedulers will be delighted to pit the Russell Wilson-led Denver Broncos against the LA Rams in the season opener. That makes sense for two reasons:

First, it has all types of dramatic angles to the game, as the Denver Broncos have a former NFC West elite quarterback on their roster. Who better to face the Rams in an opener than Russell Wilson? And which defense is best equipped to square off against Wilson in his Denver debut than that of the LA Rams?

Secondly, former Rams coaches: Ejiro Evero, Marcus Dixon, and Dwayne Stukes; all elected to take promotions on the coaching staff of the Denver Broncos.  That simply makes this contest compelling for television viewing, particularly right out of the gates with plenty of uncertainty and optimism flowing through the course of all 32 NFL teams. One Broncos’ website is already lobbying hard for the Broncos to be the Rams’ opening opponent.
