3 UDFAs most likely to make the LA Rams roster
By Bret Stuter
DAWGWORK defensive lineman
DT Elijah Garcia is a huge defensive lineman. Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing in at 302-pounds, he has all of the size and strength necessary to slide up and down the LA Rams defensive line. Very similar traits to that of current nose tackle Greg Gaines, Garcia is a huge and powerful young man who can move more quickly than first expected.
The knock against Garcia comes in the form of the very expected unrefined technique. Standing 6-foot-5 on the defensive line makes it tougher to get good leverage on an offensive lineman, work under the pads, and shed the blocker quickly to either make the tackle on the running back or sack the quarterback. Still, he managed to make 66 tackles in his senior year, 5.5 tackles for a loss, and 4.5 quarterback sacks.
Because he is so very tall, he is also quite adept at throwing up his hands and deflecting passes at or near the line of scrimmage. All in all, Garcia is simply a young man who works very hard on each and every play, constantly forcing offenses to remain aware of his location at all times.
A young man who works hard on every play will now have a defensive line coach who demands that type of commitment from his players. But it’s a two-way street, as Elijah Garcia will soon discover. Coach Eric Henderson is the master at molding and shaping unrefined young defensive linemen into NFL starters and more. Garcia is ideal for #DAWGWORK, as he has been embracing that willingness to commit to the hard and daily grind to get to this point.
Coach Henny is one of the best in the NFL, and he proves it once more by transforming this young man into an NFL contributor.
