Has the LA Rams roster gotten worse throughout this off-season?
Supporting our secondary
As for the secondary, yes DB Darious Williams will be a big loss, but we still have the best cornerback in the game right now with Jalen Ramsey. We added two more cornerbacks during the draft. I would look for rookie Decobie Durant to get some playing time in the Rams secondary this year.
Lost in all of the off-season shuffles is the fact that the LA Rams traded a future fifth-round draft pick to re-acquire veteran defense back Troy Hill. Hill was the guy who did much of the heavy lifting opposite Ramsey in 2020, allowing Williams to pick the quarterback’s pockets. Now the Rams get their workhorse back. But this time, the Rams have an entire ensemble of defensive backs who are eager to get a chance to pilfer a passer.
And don’t forget about former Georgia cornerback Derion Kendrick, who will also be lining up in the Rams secondary. There is just something about him that feels better than the brochure. And the LA Rams did not sleep on their safeties. They drafted not one, but two, safeties, in DB Quentin Lake and DB Russ Yeast. Our secondary just got better.
Can’t see the forest for the Trees
Wide receiver? Yes, veteran Robert Woods will be missed, as would Odell Beckham Jr be if the Rams fail to find the right contract language and compensation to attract him back to the team that he loves to play for. But the Rams front office did not miss a beat and added veteran wide receiver Allen Robinson at wideout. Man, do you know how excited I am to see Matthew Stafford connect with Allen Robinson? It’s gonna be off the charts! One of the most dynamic pairings in the NFC. In fact, I think that we just got better at wide receiver.
Added to that, Cam Akers is returning from injury at the running back and appears to be a full go this year, a position which we also upgraded by drafting rookie RB Kyren Williams out of Notre Dame. Williams is a tough, reliable three-down back who can threaten the perimeter, gain tough yards between the tackles, and is very effective at blocking and catching passes. Did the running back position regress? I think it is one more position that we have improved. All of this and who knows, we may still trade for some other big names that are still out there. You know, I said, squinting into the blazing Malibu sun, the future looks very bright indeed for the Super Bowl champion LA Rams.
Slinking off, his wheels spinning, he had much to chew on, plenty of food for thought.
Have the Los Angeles Rams gotten worse this offseason? The answer, unfortunately for the other 31 teams desperately chasing their tail, is a resounding ‘no.’ In fact, they might just have gotten even better.
Better luck next time, everyone. The champs are locked and loaded.
