LA Rams unexpectedly clear 5 roster spots: Are signings imminent?
By Bret Stuter
Rams release five: Who?
So who were they? We had introduced all 17 UDFAs in a previous article, but here are the five currently released:
TE Roger Carter was a versatile fullback/tight-end prospect who appeared to be ideally suited for the role in the LA Rams offense vacated by TE Johnny Mundt. He could run with the football, could lead block into the hole, could line up virtually anywhere on the offense, and be effective no matter where he line up. Most of all, he was cited as an outstanding blocker.
I thought Carter was a player who actually stood a chance of making this roster. So this was a humbling development. Of course, he had me at fullback. I guess I will never learn.
WR Lance McCutcheon was another player who seemed to have the intangible factors that the LA Rams sought for their receiver room this year. While he stands 6-foot-2 and weighs a solid 205 pounds, McCutcheon has a solid reputation for fighting for and winning contested catches. Those are the same qualities that endeared the Rams to veteran WR Odell Beckham Jr. and second-year WR Ben Skowronek. Is another WR signing imminent?
It would make this release make much more sense.
Okay, that’s two players on the offensive side of the football. Now, what about the defensive side?
