Rams release three from defense: Who?

I was fearful that OLB Andrzej Hughes-Murray was a long shot, and it seems that is exactly how the LA Rams coaching staff viewed him as well. Hughes-Murray was not a heavily recruited prospect, so there was no harm in bringing him in, getting a look at him, and seeing if there was more than meets the eye to him.

While he stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 246-pounds, his production was on the low end, even for a college rookie. The Rams need depth at their outside linebacker position. Will the Rams be adding to the position in the near future? That is certainly the hope of many fans right now, and an idea that we have entertained as well. (Hint: Sign a former Tampa Bay Buccaneer OLB)

TCU’s versatile defensive back T.J. Carter appeared to be a player who had the potential to fill the chic and wildly popular hybrid role of CB/S. Standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 194-pounds, Carter was a solid but unremarkable signing. He had plenty of upside potential to be something, someday.

Perhaps the challenge for him was the timeline the coaching staff felt would be required to coach him up to the NFL level.

Washington State’s defensive back Daniel Isom was another off-the-radar type of defensive back who had the right size and weight to appear to be NFL material. But he, too, was unremarkable and as such likely was invisible in early drills. Isom stands 6-foot-0 and weighs 194 pounds. But he arrived without much fanfare, which creates incredible pressure upon the young man to raise eyebrows immediately.

The Rams seemed to have an egg-timer set in an NFL form of musical chairs. Time expired, the Rams removed five roster spots, and Isom found himself without a slot.

Okay. Five players have been released. Now, what might the Rams’ next moves be?
