Wide Receiver

. . Allen Robinson III. 20. player. 51.

If you add up the statistics of LA Rams WR Robert Woods and WR Odell Beckham Jr.’s 2021 fantasy points, again according to ESPN standard scoring, they combined as the 11th ranked receiver.  Is it possible Allen Robinson III puts up numbers that land him at 11th by the season’s end?  We’ve seen examples of two wide receivers finishing in the top 24 on the same team.

I don’t believe that it’s outside of the realm of possibilities and quite honestly I struggled with where to rank him.  Ultimately, there are still question marks around him; however, it would not shock me to see Robinson finish in the top 20.  There are three main factors fantasy football managers look at, opportunity, supporting cast, and talent.  I don’t think too many would argue that Robinson checks all three boxes, so why not consider him a top 20?

One thing to consider and perhaps is part of the wildcard here, is how quickly will Robinson integrate with Matthew Stafford in this offense?   Here’s where you should pause and consider what I just said.  Woods plus OBJ combined equaled the 11th-ranked wide receiver.  That throws out any minor impact of WR DeSean Jackson. We know where Cooper Kupp finished as well.  How pass prolific will this offense be in 2022?

Draft Robinson in Round 7

Matthew Stafford was the sixth-ranked quarterback in fantasy last season.  So let’s say hypothetically, you draft Kupp in round two, then you grab Stafford in round five.  Now you have that QB/WR stack but later in the draft, let’s say in round seven or eight, Robinson is sitting there.  Do you grab him?  I think the LA Rams are the rare case where this might actually work.  There aren’t too many teams I would be willing to do something like this with but the payoff could be huge!

I’m putting Robinson in that “sleeper” pick for me, at least for now.  We are too early in the year to have any viable data to determine a player’s average draft position but I’ll be willing to bet based on Robinson’s performance or lack of, causes his draft stock to fall and you can draft him in the later rounds, where you could be getting the steal of the draft.
