No early edge rookie?

Okay. The uncertainty of Odell Beckham Jr.’s availability may have limited the LA Rams’ ability to address their need to value his contribution in writing for a contractual agreement. But what about the team’s need to rush off the edge? In a draft class that appeared to have a robust and talented draft class for outside linebackers, the LA Rams failed to address their need for an outside linebacker in the first three draft picks.

Of course, when the first pick of the draft for the team begins at the 104th overall draft pick, the team was letting a ton of talent slip away.

Of course, the fact is that the Rams’ roster, while losing both veteran Von Miller and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo from their Super Bowl team, may not have held the same sense of urgency to address the position as we expected. But they certainly showed little interest in addressing the position in the draft.

Not only did the LA Rams not address the need for a talented outside linebacker early in the draft, but the front office chose three defensive backs before choosing an edge rusher. Five of eight picks later, the LA Rams selected Montana State edge rusher Daniel Hardy in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft with the 211th overall pick.

While we do not wish to propagate the belief that the chances of NFL rookies automatically coincide with where they are chosen in the draft, There were plenty of NFL starter talent selected in the draft after pick 164 that may have benefitted the Rams the year.
