By all accounts, LA Rams Stafford to Cooper Kupp still deadly accurate
By Bret Stuter
Record-setting Rams receiver
Cooper Kupp has always been good. Now, there is no denying that he is elite. It appears that receivers who play a full season catching passes from Stafford have an incredible uptick in their personal career bests. How did Kupp fare in his first and only season catching the pigskin from Stafford?
Receptions increased 60 percent. Receiving yards improved by 110 percent. Average yards per reception improved by 30 percent. Touchdowns improved 533 percent. Yards per game improved by 95 percent. Average yards per target improved by 50 percent. Even his catch percentage improved by 1.7 percent.
NFL record-setter Cooper Kupp
Much like Stafford, Kupps 2021 NFL season was a record-setter. Kupp set the All-Time Rams Single-Season Franchise record for receptions (145), receiving yards (1,945 yards), and came in second place for receiving touchdowns (16). Kupp came in second place for the All-Time NFL Single-Season record for receptions and receiving yards.
While the ultimate goal is and will be to win NFL Championships, the combination of QB Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp is at an entirely different level. This was not a good season. This was not even a great season. The combination of Stafford and Kupp places them in the company of the best quarterback-wide receiver combinations in the history of the game. Was it all a matter of beginner’s luck?
