The LA Rams, summer, and training camp? Ahhhh.

The sounds, smells, and feel of the summer months are kicking into full gear. Just 24 months ago, we were all self-quarantining, locked in our homes with an honor-system edict to make only the most necessary trips to buy groceries, commute to and from work, and medical care. Even the LA Rams were forced by health concerns to adhere to strict NFL/NFLPA guidelines that altered the 2020 off-season, and in some ways, reset norms permanently.

The hope then was simply to endure until better days arrived. Whether or not you believe that better days are ‘here,’ we are now smack dab in the middle of summer and the NFL training camps are on the horizon, less than one month away. So what do we know about the LA Rams heading into training camp this year?

Well, here are a few items:

I: The Rams’ running game is atop the team’s priority

Whether you believe in the team’s rehabbed running backs or not, the LA Rams will be putting a lot of planning and work to balance their offensive attack for the 2022 NFL season. While the bread and butter of this team is the passing game behind veteran QB Matthew Stafford, the benefits of a solid rushing attack go on and on.

And Rams head coach Sean McVay, and newly hired offensive coordinator Liam Coen, are fully aware of that fact.

The team may be placing an overabundance of faith in the healthy return of featured running back Cam Akers, but the team has other irons in the fire. The team knows that with a lot of load-management, RB Darrell Henderson can prove once more to be a dangerous offensive ground weapon. The team may not realize an instant impact by RB Kyren Williams, but he will be in the bullpen, ready to be called up if the situation warrants it. And the team has a number of other running backs, all of whom will be given a solid look at the position throughout this training camp.

New RB coach Ra’Shaad Samples will no doubt want to see first-hand what his players can do. And he has a history with RB Xavier Jones from SMU. Just jot that down somewhere.
