Sometimes the more you know, the less you understand. While that may not make much sense, it seems to describe the way things are shaping up for the LA Rams offense in terms of the team’s 2022 outlook. How good will they be? Oh boy, isn’t that the $57 million dollar question right now? And it’s the same question that is probably puzzling the entire LA Rams organization right now.
From where the team started at for the 2021 NFL season, I like this defense more. Not only do the LA Rams have veteran inside linebacker Bobby Wagner, but the defense is more closely constructed to suit defensive coordinator Raheem Morris’ style of play. I love the return of DB Troy Hill and the fact that so many second-year players will get a chance to contribute this year. That includes DB Robert Rochell, ILB Ernest Jones, OLB Chris Garrett, DT Bobby Brown, and even DE Earnest Brown IV.
I even think that the LA Rams special teams will play better this year. Pro Bowler Matt Gay is back to nail field goals, extra points, and touchbacks. KR/PR Brandon Powell is back, and hopefully will be able to showcase his stuff all season. That leaves a question mark at the punter position. If the team elects to go with veteran P Riley Dixon this season, he was very close to the performance of Johnny Hekkers 2021 NFL season performance.
All that is left to go is the LA Rams offense. How good will they be this year? Well, that’s a tough call. There are reasons to believe that the offense will be worse this year. But there are reasons to believe that the offense will be better.
