Defensive front

Defensive end – Aaron Donald (first round)
Sure, you can say that Aaron Donald is a bit of the NFL’s aristocracy. After all, he was drafted with the 13th overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft and has been atop the list of almost any NFL honor and award since his arrival. But his draft profile left no indication of the perennial All-Pro player he would become.

Described as too short, not strong enough, and projected as a backup who may be a starter someday, Aaron Donald has earned each of his accolades.

Nose Tackle – Greg Gaines (fourth round)
Chosen in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft with the 134th overall pick, Gaines was projected to be a rotational defensive lineman who could help the team’s defensive front. But in 2021, he stepped up in the wake of teammate Sebastian Joseph Day’s injury and never looked back.

Defensive end – A’Shawn Robinson (free agency)
The LA Rams signed Robinson as a rather benign addition during the 2020 NFL Free Agency market, after being selected with the 46th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. His four-year NFL career with the Detroit Lions was torturous, and Robinson drew little interest from teams.

But when he arrived at the LA Rams, he quickly learned how valuable being in a positive culture can be, and he transformed his entire life. After dropping weight and adding flexibility exercises to his workout regimen, Robinson was rejuvenated and has become one of the standouts on the Rams’ defense.
