Grading LA Rams Initial 53-man roster to projections

Defense (Us: 25, Rams 26) Grade: A-

DEFENSIVE LINE (Us: 5, Rams: 6): A’Shawn Robinson, Aaron Donald, Greg Gaines, Michael Hoecht, Marquise Copeland, Jonah Williams

Bobby Brown III (suspended 6 games)

Differences: The LA Rams opted to keep DE Jonah Williams, which we had as the next player to make the roster if the Rams went with 26 over 25 spots, they did

OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS (Us: 5, Rams: 5): Leonard Floyd, Justin Hollins, Terrell Lewis, Keir Thomas, Daniel Hardy (Pending designation on IR)

Differences: We got the numbers right, but we envision Chris Garrett making the roster. He may yet, as the Rams must wait to designate Hardy to IR/Designated to Return list.  Once the Rams have moved Hardy, the team is likely to re-sign Garrett.

On another positive note, undrafted OLB Keir Thomas is the second undrafted rookie to make the Rams roster.

INSIDE LINEBACKERS (Us: 4, Rams: 4):  Ernest Jones, Bobby Wagner, Jake Hummel, Christian Rozeboom
Travin Howard (injured)

Differences: No differences. This could be the strongest ILB group on LA Rams HC Sean McVay’s watch. And ILB Jake Hummel is the third and final undrafted rookie to make the LA Rams’ initial 53-man roster

CORNERBACKS (Us: 6, Rams: 6): Jalen Ramsey, Troy Hill, David Long Jr., Robert Rochell, Cobie Durant, Derion Kendrick

Differences: No differences. Do you sense a pattern here?

SAFETIES (Us: 5, Rams: 5): Taylor Rapp, Nick Scott, Terrell Burgess, Jordan Fuller, Russ Yeast
Quentin Lake (Reserve/PUP)

Differences: No differences again. What did we know that we didn’t share?

In the end, some surprises, some shockers, but a 53-man roster nonetheless. The final roster may have some minor tweaks, as the team will be designating OLB Daniel Hardy to IR, and filling that roster spot, hopefully with an outside linebacker.

The Rams will now look over the waiver wire to see if any players warrant adding them to the 53-man roster. If not, the next wave of activity will feature the Rams adding 16 players back to the team’s practice squad.
