It’s the start of a new season for the LA Rams, and while some things are changed, other things are still consistent and dependable. For starters, the LA Rams are a pretty good football team. In fact, since hiring head coach Sean McVay, the team has been one of the most successful teams in the NFL.
How good is this team? Well, we were curious about that, so we did what we do, we began to investigate, and what we found was pleasantly surprising, even for us:
That’s a pretty impressive performance for the first five seasons under Coach McVay, isn’t it? But it gets much better.
These Rams know how to win
Over the past five seasons the LA Rams have accomplished the following:
- Season Record Postseason 2017 11-5 0-1 2018 13-3 2-1 SB Loss 2019 9-7 0-0 2020 10-6 1-1 2021 12-5 4-0 SB Win TOTALS 55-26 7-3
That is pretty impressive, particularly if you consider that the Rams have not drafted in the first round throughout that period. In fact, the LA Rams have found success by abandoning conventional wisdom, and simply blazing a new standard of roster building. That new Rams roster-building standard has meant drafting late, investing in undrafted players who can fill a niche on the roster, and taking the time to develop those younger players.
While you may raise an eyebrow over the method used, you can’t argue with the results. Not only have the Rams enjoyed unparalleled success, but the team has a rather impressive streak going right out of the gate. What do I mean? Well, we examined the team’s season openers over the past five seasons, and this is what we discovered:
- Season Opponent Final Score 2017 Indianapolis 46-9 Win 2018 @Oakland 33-13 Win 2019 @Carolina 30-27 Win 2020 Dallas 20-17 Win 2021 Chicago 34-14 Win
The Rams play very well in the season openers. Now, how can that be? We can find three reasons for the winning streak. What are they? Let’s discuss:
