LA Rams and Odell Beckham Jr. tease fans again with official visit

While the LA Rams struggled in their Thursday Night Football season opener, there was a bit of newsworthy activity going on at the Rams sideline. Such as? Such as free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. showing up on the Rams side of the football field, noticeably wearing the LA Rams uniform colors of white jersey and sol yellow pants.

Of course, OBJ had reason to be on either side of the field. He is good friends with Bills OLB Von Miller after all. And he has good friends with the LA Rams coaching staff and players. But he showed up in Rams colors.  That was no accident, that was either a harsh tease or a direct statement to everyone who wants Odell Beckham Jr. on the LA Rams roster.

OBJ is an especially talented player. Like Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey, he wants to focus on the game of football on the field, and entrust the NFL team to take care of him. In his NFL career, he’s found that once, in Los Angeles, with the LA Rams.

Follow the emotions

So it’s understandable that during the game, the former LA Rams wide receiver wanted to suit up and join his teammates. Of course, he’s not signed to play for the LA Rams or any NFL team just yet. He is not medically cleared to do so just yet.  But the emotions are real, and a clear and undeniable indication that OBJ wants to return.

Now, I’m not a personal friend to Odell Beckham Jr. I’m not privy to his thoughts. But I do get his struggles, and I have a great deal of respect for a person who put it all on the football field for the LA Rams, suffered a devastating injury to his knee, and in the aftermath rather than celebrate the win, faces uncertainty. I could not just let him pour out his heart without some words of reassurance. So I did, to which he replied

Need more proof? When that medical clearance happens, a contract will be coming. And we don’t have to guess which NFL team he wants to sign with. Odell Beckham Jr. comes right out and says it:

Are you done with the LA Rams – Odell Beckham Jr. saga already? I wouldn’t push a pin into that balloon just yet folks. Take away LA Rams WR Cooper Kupp’s totals from the first game, and you get 16 receptions on 26 passes for 112 yards and no touchdowns. That really isn’t the type of support that many expected from WR Allen Robinson, Tyler Higbee, Ben Skowronek, Brandon Powell, and Tutu Atwell.

The Rams opener loss, and the inability of Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford to get anything going with any receiver not named Cooper Kupp, create even more reason for the LA Rams’ free agency to sign Odell Beckham Jr.

This team did not open as a powerhouse in Week 1. The next best option available to the Rams now may be to become one along the way. From what I can tell, Odell Beckham Jr. is eager to sign.
