Optimistic Observation III: Matt Gay appeared to be in Pro Bowl form

The LA Rams are going to need contributions from everyone this season. Thankfully, it appears that the team can count on placekicker Matthew Gay to deliver this season.  He played a flawless game, nailing a long field goal, an extra point, and kicking off into the end zone.

Matt Gay was solid. The same cannot be said about their returns or punting, yet.

But in this one, it was easy to overlook the excellence that is Matt Gay. in fantasy football, Gay’s performance would have generated no more than four points. That is a far cry from Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ryan Succop, whose four of five field goals plus an extra point would score 13 points for his fantasy football general managers. But Gay kicked everything he was asked to kick.

So now it comes down to the LA Rams putting themselves into a better position to benefit from the kicking of Gay, which probably won’t be long in coming. The Rams will turn around the rest of their play. And when they do, the team will once again be looking to Matt Gay to line up and kick the game-winning field goal.

Having a field goal kicker who can be relied upon may not be something that many think of, but if he was unreliable, you can bet that you would be very aware of it.  So be thankful that you are not aware, because Gay is clearly still in Pro Bowl form.
