TE Roger Carter

The LA Rams’1 tight end turmoil following the three-game suspension of TE Brycen Hopkins is anything but solved with the acquisition of TE Kendall Blanton.  While Hopkins was clearly not getting involved in the offense, he has a full season so far of working with the offense, and should anything happen to the Rams’ starting tight end Tyler Higbee, he was the next man up.

Even as Kendall Blanton is the best option to fill a longer-term need on the Rams’ roster, he cannot be expected to have an instant command of the team’s current offensive playbook.

But to add him, the Rams had to place him on the active roster. Getting him on the Rams roster was a wise move, but expectations of his capabilities are somewhat limited.

Carter can make a difference

TE Roger Carter is a solid player for the Week 3 game against the Arizona Cardinals for several reasons. First and foremost, he is a strong special teams player, one who can contribute both on return and coverage units. Secondly, he is more up-to-date with the current LA Rams offensive playbook, and should the Rams need an emergency tight end in the offense, he is the better choice for this week.

But thirdly, and perhaps the most intriguing reason of all, is the fact that the LA Rams found such excellent production with WR Ben Skowronek in a fullback-like role in Week 2. Well, Roger Carter is a player with extensive fullback history and would be an ideal surprise player to shock the Cardinals’ defense with in Week 3.
