Rams vs. Chiefs: Game day info, betting spread, and how to watch

The LA Rams roster has gotten to the point now where the players who take the field seem more like a preseason lineup than a starting lineup at the cusp of the NFL Playoff push. The Rams’ offensive line has led the team in injuries, fielding a new offensive line each week since the start of the season. But even the key offensive weapons have begun to feel the brunt, as the Rams will be without starting QB Matthew Stafford, WR Cooper Kupp is on IR, and both TE Tyler Higbee and WR Allen Robinson are banged up for this one.

The Rams may be undermanned and overmatched, but that could work to their advantage. After all, the Chiefs are red-hot on a four-game winning streak, including a brutal victory last week against AFC West Division rival, the LA Chargers by a score of 30-27. After so many high-profile competitive games, the Chiefs would certainly have plenty of reason for a letdown in this one.

Can you say . . . trap game?

Realistically speaking, even if the Chiefs are looking past the Rams this week, that may not be enough to give the Rams a fighting chance. The Rams’ offense will need to surprise the Chiefs with creative offensive plays that force their defense to cover the football field from sideline to sideline and from the line of scrimmage to the back of the end zone.

The Rams need a ball control offense to keep Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and that Chiefs offense off the field. Defensively, no team has shut down their offense, with the closest being the Indianapolis Colts holding them to 17 points. The Rams will need their best effort in all phases of their game to have a chance at this one.

But this game is worth watching if only to see how the younger players on the Rams roster respond to their chance at performing in live NFL action

The Kansas City Chiefs are leading the AFC in position for the top seed and the ever-precious BYE week that comes with post-season play. Despite the players who take the field, I like how the Rams match up to the Chiefs if fully healthy. What can the Rams do with so many backups playing? That’s a tough call.

The Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots, and even the Green Bay Packers continue to cheer against the Rams this year. With each loss suffered by the Rams, their 2023 NFL Draft outlook grows brighter, as each team holds one of the Rams’ originally allotted draft picks.

Recommended Bets:

This is the largest underdog spread that the LA Rams have gone into a game with under the tenure of head coach Sean McVay. If the Rams had more pieces to their offense intact or had a solid run from the defense, this would be a good week to expect the Rams to cover this spread.

Take the Rams to cover the spread (+15.5) in this one
National broadcast: 1:25 pm PT on CBS Sports

The game may not be riveting for fans of the LA Rams, but there are still reasons to view this one. For starters, younger players could position themselves for larger roles with a good performance in this one. And losing does improve the Rams’ position of selecting in the 2023 NFL Draft, a draft in which the Rams’ Day 2 picks are suddenly becoming quite intriguing.
