LA Rams’ hopes for postseason in ICU, as hope waning for this team

If the LA Rams had any hopes to extend their playoff hopes for one more week, they are bound to be disappointed right now. The Rams knew that the chances of pulling out a win at Lambeau Field were slim, but with a roster that is only a pale shadow of itself, those hopes were already a bit dim.

But the LA Rams are facing the cold, another injury to an offensive lineman (Brian Allen’s third injury this season), and a road game where they have not one in their previous two attempts.

And yet, there is still a chance. A slim, snowball’s chance in hell, of a positive outcome. So why do the LA Rams have any chance in this one? Well, for starters, besieged defensive back Taylor Rapp intercepted Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on an overthrown pass. That turnover led to three points for the Rams.

Another reason is the fact that Rams placekicker, Matt Gay, is two of two kicking field goals in this one, including a phenomenal 55-yard field goal as the seconds ticked away in the first half. While that is a huge field goal in normal conditions, at the sub-freezing temperatures in this one long kicks are rare indeed.

The Rams are fighting to stay mathematically alive in postseason competition, and if the Rams lose any games, the effort is rendered useless. Right now, the Rams are down by four points, and the team is struggling to play consistently on offense.

As long as the LA Rams are within one score, there is a chance that this team may stay with a rather effective running attack in this one.  But if the Rams fall behind by multiple scores, the team has almost always abandoned the run and gone exclusively with a passing attack. That would play right into the Packers’ defense, which is potent at defending the pass, and with the cold temperatures, the Rams’ passing game would be all but useless.

The Rams have almost no chance at postseason play even if the team wins out.  But it’s fun to play spoiler.
