Rams offensive exes

RB Sony Michel is not enjoying anywhere near the level of use he had with the LA Rams. He has seen work in 10 games, taken the field for 125 offensive snaps, but only rushed 36 times for 106 yards. He has also caught 9 of 13 passes thrown his way for another 53 yards. While not a primary ball handler for the LA Chargers offense, he has the potential to step up if and when the Chargers may need him to assume a larger role.

The Rams had sorely missed Michel’s ability to run north-south this season, and if not for the most recent burst of offense from estranged RB Cam Akers, the team’s rushing offense would be in complete chaos. As it is, the Rams have rallied behind Akers once more, giving the team hopes for an even better rushing offense in 2023.

Time to talk tight ends

TE Gerald Everett still competes at a high level, this season for the LA Chargers. If there is a friendly competition between former teammates Everett and LA Rams tight end Tyler Higbee, Higbee is winning, but barely. In 14 games, Everett has started in nine and played 601 offensive snaps. This season, he has caught 52 of 79 passes for 532 yards and two touchdowns.

Higbee has played and started in 15 games, seeing action in 790 offensive snaps. In that time, Higbee has caught 65 of 97 passes thrown his way for 576 yards and three touchdowns. Curiously, Higbee’s most recent games have helped him to overtake his former teammate.

As the Rams and Chargers duke it out on the football field, keep in mind that the LA Chargers have secured a berth in their post-season competition. As the projected sixth seed, they would travel to face the Cincinnati Bengals in the Wild Card Round of the AFC Playoffs. Of course, if they win out and the Baltimore Ravens lose a game, it is possible for the Chargers to finish as the fifth seed, and compete with what appears to be the AFC South Division winner, the Jacksonville Jaguars.
