The LA Rams have not had much success committing to the running game in recent years. And that lack of commitment to the run has run a parallel course to the fact that the Rams running backs have been a bit of a kaleidoscope of workloads and success. The Rams have struggled to feature one running back for quite some time.

The last occasion for the LA Rams to have a running back break 100 yards rushing in three consecutive games occured in 2015, a four-game rushing streak by star running back Todd Gurley between October 4, 2015, and November 1, 2015.  Since that streak, the Rams had several two-game consecutive 100-yard rushing yards by Gurley, and the most recent two consecutive games of 100+ rushing yards were delivered by RB C.J. Anderson at the end of the 2018 NFL season.

Since that point in time, the Rams have had to scramble a bit for rushing yards. The Rams tried to measure the workload of RB Todd Gurley in 2019, but that proved to be ineffective. The Rams featured a running back by committee in 2020, but the rotation kept running backs fresh at the cost of no single running back dominating from the LA Rams backfield.

The Rams’ offense in 2021 reluctantly turned to veteran running back Sony Michel late in the season, and he delivered two 100+-yard rushing performances. But he never synched up two consecutive games of 100 rushing yards.

Cam Akers is the most unlike running back to gain 100+ yards in three consecutive games

Until now, and by the most unlikely of players. LA Rams running back Cam Akers has three games with 100+ yards. This is the same rusher who opened the 2022 NFL season with three runs for 0 yards against the Buffalo Bills. It was not until the third game of the season, against the Arizona Cardinals, that Akers broke the 50 yards rushing mark.

But until he suddenly broke out to daylight in the past three games, Akers has been held relatively quiet all season. Not only did he rush three times for zero yards, but he had a game with eight rushes for 13 yards, and another game with five rushes for three yards. But toss what you thought you knew about Akers before this final three-game stretch. In the past three games, Akers has rushed 63 times for 345 yards and three touchdowns.

The LA Rams showed some spirit in their overtime loss at Seattle giving the Seahawks hope for a playoff appearance. The LA Rams lose a tough-fought game. But RB Cam Akers has rushed for three consecutive games of 100+ yards. That’s not a bad foundation to build upon in 2023.

36. Final. 16. 51. 19

Hot. Why Rams McVay’s rumors can be true, and still return in 2023. light
