There is a lot of confusion right now about the future of LA Rams head coach Sean McVay. And folks, it’s okay. And the Rams’ rumors about the uncertainty over McVay’s future can be 100 percent absolutely true right now.  The problem is that far too many take the ball and run with it to the extreme.

At the end of a marathon, no runner is quick to say yes to their next run.  At the end of a long day of work on road construction, the number of volunteers to stay for a second shift to help fill the ranks due to no-shows is never a robust number.  Let’s face it folks. The life of LA Rams head coach Sean McVay, from the start of the 2021 off-season to now, has been as action-packed and filled with adversity as any NFL head coach in quite some time.

To be honest, it extends all the way back to the 2020 NFL season, and the decision to trade for Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford. At that time, it was McVay himself who pitched the idea to team owner, Stan Kroenke, to get authorization to include another first-round pick in the offer that ultimately won and brought Stafford to the Rams roster.

Just . . . give him a minute to process it all

Since that 2020 season, the 2020-21 offseason pitching the trade for, and then designing an offense around veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford, reworking the Rams offense to fit the ever-changing offensive roster in 2021, competing in and winning Super Bowl LVI, getting married, coming right back to try to adapt to the new 2022 roster, and then a full season of the worst run of injuries and substandard offensive season in his career with the Rams (Whew! That’s a lot of action), is it any wonder that Sean McVay is simply looking to distance himself from football questions right now?

Let’s be honest. 10 minutes after returning home from running shopping errands, I get a bit cranky at the mere mention of needing to go back out and shop for items that I failed to get the first time.  So the lack of interest in McVay to spell out the future of his NFL career is at least understandable to me.

What we know . . .

Let’s be sure that we settle plenty of misinformation. LA Rams head coach Sean McVay is rumored to be wavering on any decision to be back next season. The Rams are not in any hunt for a new head coach. McVay is not in discussion with a new career in the broadcast booth. The only ‘question’ in the Rams’ current scenario is the imminent decision by head coach Sean McVay over coming back to coach next year.

The scenario is not about how McVay responds to a disappointing season. And it’s not about a lack of competitiveness, a lack of desire, or getting back up after getting punched in the mouth. LA Rams head coach Sean McVay is exhausted. He lost his grandfather, John McVay, in November 2022.  The factors in his life have been difficult for more than this season, but it’s all come to a breaking point.

Will he be back? Despite the fact that nobody knows, I think if he has the chance to clear his head, yes. As we had pointed out in a previous article, no other career comes close to the level of immediate feedback.

It’s just going to take time to sort this all out. We can wait. After all, what else do LA Rams have to worry about after today’s game?

In the end, the Rams rumors can be true, and Rams head coach Sean McVay can still decide to return. It’s been a long time, since the advent of COVID-19, for Coach McVay to truly relax. We can be patient while he sorts through it all, and we owe it to him to give him the time to make a decision that is clearly quite important for his future.
