The LA Rams have welcomed back HC Sean McVay. But here is a question that you are likely not to have expected to be asked:

What do LA Rams head coach Sean McVay and former Taxi actress Marilu Henner have in common?

Both have been blessed/cursed with highly superior autobiographical memory, a rare condition identified in only 100 people worldwide. So what? Well, it is a long name that categorizes what is one of the most astounding abilities exhibited by humans. In essence, both Henner and McVay have the ultra-rare ability of total recall.

While Henner’s ability has been tested down to the date and time of what she has worn, what she was doing, and who she was with at practically any time in her life, the ability of LA Rams head coach Sean McVay’s ability to recollect has only been demonstrated over the plays called in any game of his NFL career.

Highly superior autobiographical memory

Since I am not blessed, cursed, or affected by a highly superior autobiographical memory, I truly have no reference point to understand what living under those conditions is like. I can say that the results of someone who is impacted by it can astound others. And that’s pretty amazing stuff. Just check this video below:

Part of the healing process of failure is the ability to forget the past and move on. But what can you do with a brain that is hardwired to replay those plays that you called that you wished you could do over? Is it any wonder that, after a 5-12 season, Sean McVay needed to distance himself from the NFL?

We all have made mistakes over the course of our lives. Thankfully, we soon forget those gaffes. But can Sean McVay turn that switch off? Can he decide to forget plays that he wishes he could get back when he is haunted by each and every play called in his NFL coaching career?
