3 cracks for Rams GM Les Snead to play white knight for struggling NFL teams

Many NFL teams are already facing adversity. Is this an opportunity for Rams GM Les Snead to play white knight, and pry some draft picks out of their hands?

(1) Pittsburgh Steelers - TE

Unusually tall Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Donald Parham is an undrafted veteran from 2019 whose claim to fame is contributing four seasons to the Los Angeles Chargers. Standing 6-foot-8 and weighing 237 pounds, Parham's height creates ridiculous mismatches. Unfortunately, he has not managed to find a team to stick with.

He was a rotational piece in the Los Angeles Chargers offense from 2020 through 2023, but competed on the Denver Broncos practice squad in 2024. He hoped that signing with the Steelers for 2025 might pave the way to a new and productive NFL opportunity. Unfortunately, an ACL injury has ended his 2025 NFL season.

Can the Rams help out? Absolutely., If the Steelers are looking for a plug-and-play veteran, the Rams can offer up TE Colby Parkinson for a Round 5 pick with conditions set to upgrade that pick to a Round 4 pick if Parkinson meets certain performance marks. Or if the Steelers want a depth tight end, the Rams could negotiate the trade of Davis Allen for a Round 6 pick.

Why would the Rams willingly help out other teams? The Rams are almost certainly arming themselves for a push in the 2026 NFL Draft to land a successor for starting QB Matthew Stafford. Whether the team needs picks to package to move up, or picks to retool the offense to suit a new quarterback, is not the point. It comes down to the team needing to pivot in a new direction in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Would parting ways with players create problems in 2025? Perhaps. But regardless of how the team moves forward, the Rams roster will be limited to 53 players, with 16 more players on the practice squad. Any trade of depth players now simply changes the names of players to make the roster or practice squad.

As always, thanks for reading.
