The preseason has two main purposes: getting teams prepared for the regular season and evaluating players to determine who will make the 53-man roster. The Los Angeles Rams haven’t played their starters during the preseason, so it’s been all about evaluating roster bubble guys. While some guys have played themselves off the roster, others have been delivering consistent performance, proving they should be on the active roster.
On Saturday, the Rams moved to 2-0 in the preseason, thanks to some strong performances from guys who are fighting for a roster spot. With just one game left in the preseason, here are three players who moved closer to securing a roster spot for Los Angeles.
Cody Schrader is securing a spot in the Rams backfield
Cody Schrader has been a preseason star for Los Angeles through two weeks. After carrying the ball five times for 59 yards and catching one pass for nine yards in Week 1 of the preseason, he followed up with 15 touches for 72 yards in Week 2. Now, he’s putting pressure on the Rams to keep him on the roster.
Schrader was an undrafted player in 2024, and was claimed by the Rams last season after being waived by the San Francisco 49ers. He ultimately appeared in just one game as a rookie, recording one rush for three yards and one reception for six yards. With a depth chart that already has Kyren Williams, Blake Corum, and Jarquez Hunter ahead of him, Schrader had an uphill battle to a roster spot, but he’s making the climb.
Brennan Presley continues to impress for Rams in preseason
Brennan Presley has also been making a ton of plays for Los Angeles’ offense this preseason. On Saturday, he caught six passes for 102 yards. This comes after two receptions for 11 yards against the Dallas Cowboys. The impressive performance from Saturday puts him in serious consideration for a roster spot.
Presley is an undrafted rookie, and undrafted rookies don’t typically make the initial 53-man roster. However, there are some who find a way to breakthrough, and Presley is hoping to be that guy.
Larrell Murchison is proving why he should be on Rams’ 53-man roster
Larrell Murchison is a veteran defensive lineman, and he has been on the Rams’ roster since 2022. However, with all the young defensive line talent in Los Angeles, he could’ve been forced out, although he just re-signed with the team on a one-year deal this offseason. Murchison has done his part, though, to show he still deserves to be apart of the defensive line rotation. That’s why he’s unlikely to be waived when it’s time to trim the roster.
