The Los Angeles Rams have restocked the roster for the 2025 NFL season. Now it's a matter of sorting out who is ready to claim starting roles on the team. While the team finished with a record of 10-7 and claimed the top spot in the very competitive NFC West Division, it was never a done deal until Week 17. And it's quite clear that the Rams dug a hole for themselves by starting the season with a record of 1-4 before the Week 6 BYE.

Did the Rams learn from their 2024 NFL season struggles? Perhaps. But it's never easy to try to assess the effectiveness of how to plug a hole in the dam while you are plugging the hole in that dam. In other words, the best thing to do after chaos is to pause, take a deep breath, and revisit the chaos to determine which attempts at solving the myriad of challenges worked, and which steps merely added to the adversity.

So far, it appears that the team has done an admirable job of pausing, revisiting last year's challenges, and stepping up to the plate to address the main contributing factors to what derailed the team last year.

It's never a simple thing to anticipate what might go wrong. Even NFL general manager must gamble somewhat between roster depth that is meant to insulate the team from the adverse effects of mid-season injuries, and the need to develop future stars. And that begins with an active 53-man limit to the roster, and a 16-man practice squad.

The Rams found that the distribution of how the team bet on weighing various positions in last year's roster did not meet the needs of the 2024 NFL season. Will the team meet the needs of the 2025 NFL season. Here are three veterans who are poised to do exactly that.

On the defensive side of the football, the front office appears to have hit paydirt in signing veteran inside linebacker Nate Landman. He is already running the defense as though he was meant to call the plays, and his leadership buoys a young and hungry defensive unit that simply needs the right leader to aim them at the ball carrier.

On the offensive side of the football, the team appears to have hit the jackpot by signing veteran left tackle DJ Humphries. Unlike last season, when the team bet on the durability of swing-tackle Joe Noteboom, Humphries, Humphries brings proficiency and prowess to the Rams offensive line.

Finally, too few NFL analysts realize that the Rams secondary has been bolstered by the December 2024 addition of former first-round rookie cornerback Emmanuel Forbes. While Forbes did not survive the regime change of the Washington Commanders, he is already making inroads to significant playing time in the Rams secondary.
