The land of opportunity is one way to view the opportunities given by the Los Angeles Rams front office to undrafted collegiate free agents. On many teams, UDFAs or CFAs are signed merely to round out the 90-man training camp team roster. But for those who wisely sign with the Los Angeles Rams, they enter a competition to take their professional football dreams to the next level.

The Rams gave significant playing time to undrafted rookies just one year ago, including interior offensive lineman Justin Dedich, defensive back Jaylen McCollough, and inside linebacker Omar Speights. And they all contributed to a team that advanced to the Divisional Round of the 2025 NFL Playoffs. So their roles were about earning playing time, and not some philanthropic exercise to develop future success.

The Rams signed another group of talented rookies to the roster after the 2025 NFL Draft concluded. And with the arrival of pads finally going on, it makes sense to call out several undrafted rookies who are already getting positive reports out of training camp. So who should fans be on the lookout for? Some of the underdogs who have a real shot of making the 53-man Rams roster include:

(3) - IOL Willie Lampkin IV (#62)

When the Los Angeles Rams signed North Carolina interior offensive lineman Willie Lampkin IV, the team was already rather deep in interior offensive linemen. Behind the projected starters of LG Steve Avila, C Coleman Shelton, and RG Kevin Dotson, the team welcomed back backup LG Justin Dedich, C Beaux Limmer, and IOL Dylan McMahon. Since the team has plenty of playing time already represented in the group, opportunities will be earned.

And those opportunities to shine simply do not happen quickly for undrafted players in training camp.

But Lampkin does have some things falling in his favor. Because he is extremely versatile, he will be able to slide into any of the Rams' interior offensive line positions. And because Kevin Dotson is a certain starter, Lampkin will get plenty of work throughout the Rams' preseason. Lampkin has not gotten much discussion yet, but be patient. He has to show up and earn the right to move up in the Rams depth chart, and that will take time.

(2) - OT Trey Wedig (#64)

The path to making the team's 53-man roster became a bit more complicated for Indiana rookie offensive tackle prospect Trey Wedig as soon as the team signed veteran RT David Quessenberry, but the possibility of doing so still exists. The Rams signed Quessenberry to have a plug-and-play veteran ready to go, as starting RT Rob Havenstein was recovering from work done on both shoulders that prevented his full participation in OTAs.

Still, the team has plenty of concerns at left tackle, as starter Alaric Jackson continues to battle blood clots. So the team is focusing competition between veteran LT DJ Humphries and swing-tackle Warren McClendon Jr.. That leaves time for Wedig to earn his shots at right tackle.

Wedig stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 310 pounds, and fits the mold of a physical mauler-type of offensive lineman that seems to be what the Rams are aiming for. Much like Willie Lampkin, Rams fans are certain to see plenty of Wedig in preseason, which is when I suspect he will start to show up in discussions about making the team. He's passionate and hungry. Those types of players always seem to find their way to the Rams roster.

(1) - ILB Shaun Dolac (#56)

With the injury to Pooh Paul Jr., rookie inside linebacker Shaun Dolac has been getting as many reps as he can handle. And Dolac has been making the most of his opportunities. A versatile inside linebacker, Dolac is the cliche Swiss Army knife of defensive utility. He can stuff the run, shed blockers, cover the pass, and even rush the quarterback. And while the 6-foot-1, 225-pound rookie is not as intimidating as veteran Nate Landman (6-foot-3, 235 pounds), he is nearly identical to last year's starting ILB Omar Speights.

The thing is, Dolac offers so much more in pass coverage.

Unlike the other two rookies mentioned in this list, Dolac has been getting plenty of positive reports from the Rams training camp, including nearly sacking backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. He has also proven to be a huge hitter in the middle of the Rams' defense.

The Rams continue to improve each season. And with each new iteration of the Rams roster for an ever-improving team, the opportunities to earn playing time or even a roster spot on the team continue to shrink for undrafted players. And that is the reality that all undrafted rookies face with the Rams this season.

But where there is a will, there is a way. The Rams' front office has a keen eye for discernment that sees beyond the box score and measures the passion for football in players. We believe these three players have what it takes to overcome all obstacles. And so, these are three UDFAs that Rams fans can expect to come out of camp with a job
