Rams offense has not met expectations in 2024
Whatever the cause, the Rams' distribution of offensive snaps among their rushers has not met expectations. The LA Rams have played 601 offensive snaps in nine games. I know this because that is the number of offensive snaps played by veteran QB Matthew Stafford. So, the Rams have used runners as follows:
- RB Kyren Williams - 533 offensive snaps | 176 carries | 664 yards | 8 TDs
- RB Blake Corum - 39 offensive snaps | 23 carries | 80 yards | 0 TDs
- RB Ronnie Rivers - 29 offensive snaps | 10 carries | 51 yards | 0 TDs
- RB Cody Schrader - 0 offensive snaps | 0 carries | 0 yards | 0 TDs
The offense is getting production out of Kyren Williams, yes. But is this the ideal pace after just nine games? Does the team truly want to have Williams grind out 333 carries this season? If he does, can the team realistically expect him to have any gas left in the tank for the 2025 NFL Playoffs? I can't see how.
And yet, the offense is painted into a corner. Williams is the most dependable scorer on the offense. The problem is, he is but one of three players who have scored a touchdown for the team on the offensive side of the football. The other two players are WR Demarcus Robinson (5 TDs) and WR Cooper Kupp (2 TDs).
The Rams WR room has been underperforming, and I don't believe that it's all been on them. The team routes much of their targets through WR Cooper Kupp. That allows opposing secondaries to focus coverage priorities on Kupp whenever he plays. Why haven't coaches made better use of speedster Tutu Atwell?
Similarly, the Rams invested heavily in the tight end position, but have yet to score a single touchdown from any tight end on the roster. While that may lead fans to call for the team to abandon the position, the fact is that this team wins games when they use 12 personnel. So why not finally surrender to the fact that the team wins with two tight ends?
Okay, so the offense has untapped potential. Will the team finally learn how to optimize this offense? Let's make some bold predictions.
