II: Rams defense will create two turnovers
The LA Rams may not be among the top three defenses in the NFL, but this is an opportunistic defense that has a nose for the football. So far in 2024, the Rams have created 15 turnovers, which is an incredible average of 1.25 turnovers per game. That places the Rams defense at 12th-place in a field of 32 teams in that regard this season.
But I am holding the defense to a higher standard in Week 14. If the Rams are to have any chance of winning, they will need to embrace their cutpurse personna and create two or more turnovers in this game. That won't be easy, as the Buffalo Bills are the second best team in the NFL in terms of ball security. To date, they have coughed up only two fumbles, while throwing just five interceptions. That's rock solid ball security.
So how can the Rams force a pristine offense to make mistakes? Ah yes, which brings up to the number one bold prediction for the Rams in Week 14.
I: Rams pass rush will record 2+ quarterback sacks
The promising LA Rams young pass rush has stalled a bit of late, and is now hoving as the 21st defense in the NFL in terms of quarterback sacks. And they will face the Buffalo Bills this week, the best offense in the NFL in terms of protecting the quarterback. The Bills offensive line has allowed just 13 quarterback sacks, which is less than half the 28 quarterback sacks allowed by the LA Rams.
The thing is, the Bills offensive line does allow quarterback pressures. A prime example is starting left guard David Edwards, a former starting left guard for the LA Rams. Edwards has not surrendered a quarterback sack in 2024. But he has allowed 19 quarterback pressures. And he is not unique in terms of the Bills offensive line.
The Bills are very good at identifying and neutralizing the top pass rusher on the opposing defense. But who will they isolate and neutralize on this Rams defensive front? The team boasts four defensive players who have 4.5+ quarterback sacks. Better still, each pass rusher is selfless, and will happily take on double-teams while his teammates get after the quarterback.
Now that Rams DT Braden Fiske has be named as the Defensive Rookie Player of the month for November, you can reasonably expect a response from teammate OLB Jared Verse. I look for Verse to record a quarterback sack in Week 14. He might even get two.
