(5) - The Rams will pick off an Aaron Rodgers pass
New York Jets veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been one of the best ball-security quarterbacks over the course of his NFL career. Over his 20 year NFL career, he has thrown for 62,310 yards, 498 touchdowns, and just 113 interceptions. Compare that to Matthew Stafford's 16-year career, as he threw for 59,510 yards, 376 touchdowns, and 187 interceptions.
But any football game that features Matthew Stafford vs. Aaron Rodgers is must-see TV. This meeting may very well be the last time these two elite quarterbacks face off on a football field. But big moments in big games can bring out the best of everyone.
When the Rams faced former NFL quarterback Tom Brady, DB Jordan Fuller got his first interception to secure the victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While not exactly original, I look for the opportunistic Rams secondary to repeat that highlight by snagging an Aaron Rodgers pass in Week 16. Who will it be? I like the chances of either returning CB Cobie Durant or veteran CB Ahkello Witherspoon for the deed. But any one of six defensive backs could deliver for this bold prediction.
(4) - Stafford will put up 300+ passing yards
While QB Matthew Stafford has been both effective and efficient as the season has rolled along, the seasons with Stafford routinely hurling 300+ passing yards in a football game appear to be in his rer view mirror. As an example of this, Stafford has only thrown for 300 or more passing yards just once in 2024. That outburst of offense occurred in Week 14 against the Buffalo Bills.
Stafford was limited to just 160 passing yards and the worst completion rate of his 2024 NFL season with driving rain conditions on the road as the Rams upset the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium for their third consecutive win and third consecutive win over the 49ers. The team scored just 12 points, but it was more than enough to defeat the 49ers.
The Rams will face a different aspect of Mother Nature's fury in Week 16. This will be a dry and sunny afternoon, but temperatures in a blustery stadium will feel as low as 12 degrees Fahrenheit. You may not expect a solid passing game from Matthew Stafford in those conditions, but this is the LA Rams, and the team leans heavily on Stafford when they need a win.
Stafford may play in Los Angeles, California now, but he has not forgotten how to throw the pigskin when termperatures plummet. Nobody expects either team to pass often in this one. That's why the Rams will pass often.
