(7) - Rams need to do better on football fundamentals

It may seem counter-intuitive to tout the defense's ability to step up and make plays, and then slide into improving football fundamentals, but that is an area that needs to remain the focus of the coaches. From tackling, to communication, to being in position to make plays, the Rams young players, and the almost constant reforming of the offensive line and secondary, has allowed the team to slip on basic football fundamentals.

The challenge that I find is that whenever I research an individual player's statistics, I'm inevitable led to some form of disappointment. Either receivers and not catching footballs as frequently, running backs are fumbling too often, defensive backs are allowing far too many catches to be caught, or defenders are simply not tackling as well as expected.

It's not just one thing. It's a myriad of little things that add up in aggregate to six losses on the season.

There is a difference in how fans and a football team feels after playing sound football. Yes, a loss is a loss. But knowing that the team played well, and left it all on the football field, leaves a positive feeling to build upon for the next game. And a fundamentally sound football team will win more games than it loses.

Yes, continuity is a big deal in the NFL. And the Rams have suffered all season due to the uncertainties that new players bring to a cohesive unit like the offensive line or the secondary. But we are talking Week 14 now. And the Rams will not win games by playing the victim card. It's now or never, and players, and coaches, have to up their game now. There is no more tomorrow.
