(4) - Help that secondary
The LA Rams secondary is no longer the strength of the team. And to be truthful, the Rams have struggled in pass coverage since trading All-Pro defensive back Jalen Ramsey. I'm not suggesting that the team not trade Ramsey. I'm simply pointing out the obvious: This team did not have a plan for who could step into that shutdown cornerback role.
It hasn't been for a lack of effort. In 2024, the Rams tried to get accomplished veterans signed to the roster to lead the team's pass coverage. In fact the team signed DBs Darious Williams, Tre'Davious White, and eventually re-signed DB Ahkello Witherspoon. But it's safe to say that none of the veterans have performed to expectations. The play of Tre White was so lackluster that the team traded him to the Baltimore Ravens for next to nothing.
So, how can this team help?
Well, we know that defensive back Cobie Durant is showing up in a big way this season. He may be the lone cornerback who is surpassing expectations on the team so far. But the team is loaded with solid safeties, and they have been aiding the team as nickel cornerbacks.
The best strategy is to keep the Bills offense in long third-down scenarios. Yes, the Buffalo Bills will convert some of those third down and long yardage situations. But if the defense can keep the pressure on, some of those downs and distance problems will stump even the Bills high-powered offense.
