This could go very well, or very poorly.

Some Los Angeles Rams fans get irate when the topic of drafting and stashing a quarterback in Round 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft comes up. Other fans see the need to get and sit a rookie quarterback now rather than later, as the team has already shifted to one-year contracts with starting quarterback Matthew Stafford.

After all, the one thing worse than drafting a rookie quarterback in Round 1 to sit on the bench for a season is trying to draft a rookie quarterback late in Round 1 to take over for a Super Bowl contender in his rookie season. The Rams' roster is not your typical playoff team roster. While the team has seasoned veterans on offense, the other parts are quite young and inexpensive.

And so, the Rams are playing with a team that has the dual citizanship of contender as well has promising young talent for the future. Considering that many of the Rams young defensive stars have two more seasons remaining on their rookie contract, it makes perfect sense for the team to install a young quarterback into the team who can be ready to start at a bargain price when his teammates become due for huge pay increases. Those defensive paydays start in 2027.

Will the offense be ready to be playoff worthy and much cheaper by then? The first step in that direction is to find and add a rookie quarterback. Right now, there are multiple reports of NFL rumors over Mississippi rookie QB prospect Jaxson Dart getting plenty of attention from the Rams football team.

NFL Insider Adam Schefter's latest report of NFL rumors over Jaxson Dart are getting mixed and polarizing reactions from Rams fans. Schefter termed his interviews with the New York Giants, New Orleans Saints, and Los Angeles Rams as 'considerable time.' That's interesting.

Are the Rams truly taking aim at a Round 1 rookie quarterback? There is more riding on the 2025 NFL Draft than choosing a quarterback who can lead this offense at the starter in 2026 or 2027. And yet, if the Rams have an opportunity to claim one of the Top three quarterbacks in any rookie class, is it simply hubris not to take a chance on him?

Of course, all the speculation and rationalization gets tossed out the window when the draft arrives. The months of research all boil down to the 15 minutes or so that the Rams are on the clock when that pick arrives. In 2024, Florida State outside linebacker was off the board before the 10th pick in almost every mock draft. But on Day 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft, the 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year was still on the board.

No Rams fans complained about that outcome.

There are 25 picks to be made before the Rams step up to the 2025 NFL Draft podium. I can foresee plenty of very talented rookie prospects who could intrigue the Rams with that 26th overall pick. While the best of the best players will be off the board, some talented rookie prospects who are not expected to be on the board will fall to the Rams.

All of this makes the latest NFL rumors linking the Los Angeles Rams to a specific rookie quarterback prospect quite curious. Here's why:
