(1) - Rams did not address CB in draft
Even as the consensus of NFL Draft analysts cited the Rams roster needs in the 2025 NFL Draft as cornerback, the team did next to nothing to address the position. Encouraged by the extension of veteran CB Ahkello Witherspoon and the emergence of Emmanuel Forbes, perhaps the Rams front office believes that they have enough pieces to succeed.
Still, a chance to reunite with CB Jalen Ramsey is not just a logical trade. This has all the feel and luster of the Rams trying to get Matthew Stafford to another Super Bowl.
(2) - Rams confirmed trade talks
The amount of NFL leaks whenever the Rams are involved is scant, indeed. But unlike past practices, the Rams confirmed their interest in trading for Jalen Ramsey. Why the change? On one hand, the confirmation simply set the facts out for fans and allowed social media feedback to gauge the latent interest in trading for the former player.
But more importantly, the news confirmed interest in Jalen Ramsey and his representation. That is vital for a player who is sitting out right now, hoping that he lands in a better situation. The Rams' news of interest allowed Ramsey to push for a trade (hopefully to the Rams) on his side, too.
(3) - Rams free up salary space at odd time of year
When the Rams released CB Derion Kendrick, it seemed as though the team was preparing to trade for Ramsey and were simply freeing up a roster spot to allow that to happen. But the fans had been begging for a move since before OTAs. Ironically, the team allowed Kendrick to clear waivers and then re-signed him. That ended that hope, right?
The Rams explained that the move created salary cap space. But the team seemed to choose an odd time of the season to free up salary cap space. And cap space is not something that sneaks up on a meticulous office staff. Unless a need for cap space appears to be imminent...
(4) - Rams persistently linked to Jalen Ramsey
This all brings us back to the Shefter report. Nobody could claim foul or falsehood if he simply left the NFL rumors of the Rams trading for Jalen Ramsey to die a slow death of neglect. But he did not hesitate, pushing the NFL rumors back under the national spotlight once more.
So, which is the more likely Los Angeles, California team? Any trade that puts Jalen Ramsey on the Chargers roster would allow him to haunt the Dolphins' pursuit of a seeding in the NFL Playoffs. Conventional wisdom is that teams seldom agree to a trade with a rival.
But the Rams are an NFC team, and are one of the teams that are least likely to haunt the Dolphins' decision to trade Jalen Ramsey in the future.
Like it or not, Rams fans, the NFL rumors of the Rams trading with the Dolphins to acquire DB Jalen Ramsey are back on the menu. As always, thanks for reading.
