AJ Brown trade window nearly open, and Rams will shock the NFL when it happens

The LA Rams were strongly linked to Philadelphia Eagles WR AJ Brown. As June 1 approaches, prepare for a schocker.

One thing I love about how general manager Les Snead views the Los Angeles Rams roster is that he considers all options that may lead to upgrading the team. Another admirable Snead quality is that he makes an objective decision and then never looks back. Right now, the June 1 designation for the Philadelphia Eagles to trade disgruntled veteran wide receiver AJ Brown is ringing the doorbell.

But don't expect the Rams to answer the bell.

Ian Rapoport names the LA Rams as 'no longer in the mix,' and for good reason. That is the sense that many fans and LA sites share as well. This reason? Restocking a roster is far easier when the team initiates its new-season strategy.

But now?

After trades, free agency, and the draft, the depth chart is set, the roster holes are filled, and the team merely needs to see who will and will not work out for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. And that means the window for onboarding an elite wide receiver with a selfish and poor work ethic is bound to wane.

Rams future with AJ Brown would predictably be dark and dismal

Eagles receiver AJ Brown was targeted 121 times in 2025, the most of any Philadelphia receiver, and remains dissatisfied with his workload. The LA Rams targeted Puka Nacua 166 times, and Davante Adams 114 times. 10 other receivers fought for a share of the remaining 301 passes thrown

Brown wants the spotlight. Unfortunately for him, that role has already been effectively claimed by Nacua. And it's almost impossible not to anticipate Nacua's alpha-male role in LA's offense as not irritating Brown.

It could be friendly competition. Or it could just as easily become incredibly dark and dismal.

Team chemistry is difficult to achieve, and nearly impossible to repair once it's shattered. Los Angeles has superbly constructed a roster that sustains a brotherly aura. But one selfish player added to the roster can poison the entire locker room. AJ Brown wants to lead his team. That's a great attribute for the right NFL team.

It simply won't work in Los Angeles.

LA parted ways with veteran wide receiver Desean Jackson because he wanted a larger role in the offense. That scenario is most likely the outcome of adding Brown to a tight-end-centric offense in 2025.

Head coach Sean McVay lovers options and versatility. AJ Brown loves predictability and rigidity. Brown wants to know he is getting the lead dog role in a high-powered passing offense. But that's not what McVay's offense offers.

Nacua gets targets because he has proven his worth. Brown hasn't. And no matter what he may or may not have done in his NFL career, one thing is certain. McVay holds everyone to the same standard. And that, beyond everyting elese, makes Brown a bad fit in Horns.

As always, thanks for reading.
