A scouting report like this should answer the Los Angeles faithful's questions.

Much has been made about the Los Angeles Rams' shocking decision to select Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson 13th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. But what's done is done, and there's no turning back now; the only thing to do is move forward and see where he fits in.

Well, that's the problem, because ideally, Rams fans won't see much of Simpson anytime soon. The club's franchise signal-caller and reigning MVP, Matthew Stafford, is somehow improving with age and showing no signs of slowing down at 38 years old. So, no one really knows what to expect from the former, though the Bama Hammer's John Mitchell seemingly has high hopes for Los Angeles' newcomer.

After watching Simpson thrive in his lone campaign as a starter at Alabama, Mitchell filled Rams supporters in on exactly what Los Angeles is getting:

"[Simpson] was every bit of Alabama's offense in 2025, and if he didn't don the Superman cape, the offense could do nothing," Mitchell wrote. "He put up big numbers despite zero run game and while constantly running for his life. Pre-injury, Simpson played the QB position as well as anyone in the country. Cerebral at the line of scrimmage and with pre- and post-snap reads. He was asked to do a lot and constantly delivered for Alabama."

Alabama expert gives Rams fans much-needed reasons for optimism about Ty Simpson

A scouting report like that should put folks in Los Angeles at ease. By the sound of it, Simpson did more with less and won over many at Alabama along the way. His high football IQ, impressive accuracy and ability to throw with anticipation make him an intriguing prospect, as Mitchell highlighted.

Los Angeles ranked at or near the top of the league in motion and shotgun rate last season. They trust Stafford to process the field and make the right decisions because he has a great understanding of what opposing defenses are trying to do. Simpson assumed a similar role as a field general at Alabama thanks to his command of the offense, making the Rams an exciting landing spot.

Rams fans are struggling to see how or when Simpson will factor into the Rams' plans, and rightfully so. However, the areas he excels in pair well with how the team operates under head coach Sean McVay.
