Ever since the Rams competed in Super Bowl LIII, loaded up veterans with huge contracts, and then struggled as those players seemed to give up after getting paid, I've wondered if the Rams had learned their lesson. Do the Rams simply assume all of the risk in contracts? Or have the Rams mastered the inclusion of incentive clauses that pay top dollars for top performers? Well, thanks to a new feature from Spotrac.com, we can learn the answer to that.

It's a beta feature, meaning that it has not been fully vetted and certified. But with this new feature, Rams fans can assess the qualities of veteran contracts that trigger additional money. The Rams seem to have learned lessons with veterans who have struggled to stay healthy. But if the team has truly managed to craft contracts with these incentive clauses, the team will not suffer financial penalties that had plagued the team in the past.

And incentive clauses keep significant funds within reach of key contributors. They simply need to suit up, stay healthy, and help the team succeed to trigger additional compensation. To me, that seems like a true win-win deal for the team and for the player.

The Spotrac presentation seems to be a bit confusing, but it seems that the Rams have tiered bonus payments that start with regular season production, but with the potential for additional separate payments for the postseason. In the case of Rams starting right tackle Rob Havenstein, he has the potential to earn an additional $4.5 million in 2025 if he plays up to or more than 90 percent of the team's offensive snaps, but the team makes a Super Bowl appearance. Keep in mind that the team habitually benches starters in Week 18 if that game has no playoff berth implications, so a 90 percent threshold is a relatively high number.

While some fans will question why these incentives are important to know now, keep in mind that the Rams coaches try to ensure that players earn their incentives, so you can ink the names of these four players onto the Rams roster now. That will mean that you won't see them participate in preseason games.

Can these incentives ensure that the Rams compete in Super Bowl LX? While the team will be a bit poorer if they do, the experience will be richly rewarding. As always, thanks for reading.
