The Los Angeles Rams are getting great news for the trenches, as right guard Kevin Dotson is back and a bit eager to take out his anger and frustration on opponents. Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Derrick Hall purposefully stepped on Dotson's ankle. LA's right guard knows that he must go through the Chicago Bears to get his rematch.
The battle in the trenches is not only about Dotson. Right now, the Chicago Bears are panicked and scrambling to backfill their left tackle role with starter Ozzy Trapilo out with an injury. The obvious move is to start backup Theo Benedet.
But whispers have emerged suggesting that the Bears are considering sliding Pro Bowl left guard Joe Thuney to left tackle to better match up with outside linebacker Jared Verse.
And then it happened.
#Bears offensive line plan has been locked in all week. Players were informed at the start of the week. It will be:
— Adam Hoge (@AdamHoge) January 18, 2026
LT Joe Thuney
LG Jordan McFadden
C Drew Dalman
RG Jonah Jackson
RT Darnell Wright
In either scenario, Jared Verse has to like his chances of making an impact on today's outcome. While he has not met fans' expectations with quarterback sacks this year, he continues to put immense pressure on opposing quarterbacks. And with a mobile quarterback like Bears' Caleb Williams, pressure and containment are synonymous with victory.
Rams pass rush needs a huge game from Jared Verse
The Rams pass rush fired off an early volley of sacks against the Carolina Panthers, then fell silent. The pass rush cannot get weary in this one, and the team needs someone to set the pace. That pacemaker falls on Jared Verse against the Chicago Bears. Not only to pressure Williams, but to make tackles.
In the NFL, respect is earned. Verse has earned a reputation for being the type of pass rusher that no offensive tackle wants to face under the brightest lights. That's why Verse has to show up big in this one. Elite players must find a way to show up and make plays.
Like it or not, Verse has the advantage in this one. That places the pressure on him to deliver.
That is not to say that he must do it alone. Defensive linemen Kobit Turner and Braden Fiske, as well as edge rusher Byron Young, are more than happy to follow Verse's lead and get after the quarterback.
Still, it has to start somewhere, so why not with powerhouse Jared Verse? After all, the defense falls into place as long as the pass rush shows up. And this defense needs to show up in a huge way. Can defensive coordinator shock the NFL with a huge effort from his players?
It starts with outside linebacker Jared Verse, and he knows it.
As always, thanks for reading.
