How safe are general manager jobs in the NFL? Well, we know that GMs are often fired if the team has a multi-year pattern of not growing into an NFL playoff contender. But Los Angeles Rams GM Les Snead has done very well with this team, particularly so after hiring Sean McVay to fill the role of Rams Head Coach.

In his latest 32-team NFL team roundup of the job performances of all general managers in the NFL, Bleacher Report's Cory Davenport reveals the thermometer reading of each general manager's seat. While no GM has a red hot seat of 10/10, Davenport does paint a bleak picture for multiple NFL general managers ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.

But isn't that the case for each season? In a field of 32 NFL teams, the win-loss record is more than window dressing. Teams that cannot win are often hanging the sign for 'Now hiring' the following season. That seems to be the case for New York Giants GM Joe Schoen in 2025. But he is not alone.

So what about LA Rams GM Les Snead? The man whose strategy of trading picks for veteran players has turned into an NFL emoji is safe and sound in his job, per Davenport. In his write-up justifying a 1 of 10 assessment (one of the safest), Davenport describes Snead thusly:

"This doesn’t mean Snead can’t draft, though. In 2014 he picked one of the best defensive players of all time in Aaron Donald, and with his first first-rounder in eight years in 2024, Snead took edge-rusher Jared Verse, who went on to be named Defensive Rookie of the Year."

He views Arizona Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort as the most at risk, assigning him a temperature of 7 of 10. Both San Francisco 49ers GM John Lynch and Seattle Seahawks GM John Schneider are given a modest hot seat assessment, and Snead is the safest of the bunch at 1 of 10. While that may indicate the likelihood of job security, it will likely have no bearing on the strategy that GMs employ in this year's draft.

I expect that Rams GM Les Snead will be one of the most aggressive general managers. We'll soon find out.

As always, thanks for reading.
