The Los Angeles Rams saw regression from their lauded 2024 pass rush. Of course, some degradation was to be expected, as the defensive front emphasized stopping the run last season. But even with that understanding, the team did not see as much oomph from the pass rush as hoped for.
And the secondary struggled as a result.
So when NFL rumors about Las Vegas Raiders elite pass rusher Maxx Crosby demanding to be traded, seasoned Rams veterans would expect that to pop on general manager Les Snead's radar. But that is not the case for CBS Sports NFL writer Tyler Sullivan, who proposed five trade packages worthy of prying Crosby from the Raiders roster.
Not one mentions Los Angeles.
But he does mention two trades that impact the NFC West: One to the Seattle Seahawks and one to the San Francisco 49ers. On the surface, neither seems particularly enticing for a Raiders roster that needs to rebuild a competitive roster from the 2026 NFL Draft. Still, both proposals move Maxx Crosby to the NFC, and both generate first-round and second-round picks.
The Raiders may demand more. But the very idea of facing Maxx Crosby off the edge twice a season is enough to cause restless sleep for LA players and fans alike.
Two NFC West trade proposals that create nightmares for LA Rams
Seattle Seahawks trade proposal
- Raiders get: 2026 first-round pick (No. 32 overall), 2026 second-round pick (No. 64 overall)
- Seahawks get: EDGE Maxx Crosby
The Seahawks are not going to miss draft picks in 2026. But they will certainly benefit from an elite pass rusher on a defensive front that is already one of the best in the NFL in its own right. Fortunately, it's difficult to uncover any motivation behind this trade.
The Seahawks will likely be more focused on extending proven fits than rolling the dice on a newcomer. Yes, Crosby could be a huge get. But can the Seahawks afford to pay him and bring back veterans? That's the crux of this scenario.
San Francisco 49ers trade proposal
- Raiders get: 2026 first-round pick (No. 26 overall), 2026 second-round pick (No. 58 overall)
- 49ers get: EDGE Maxx Crosby
If you believe that 49ers fans are oblivious to their need for pass rush help, think again. Niners Noise has listed multiple targets this offseason to jumpstart the defense. And for good reason, as the Niners pass rush was the worst in the league in 2025.
Adding Maxx Crosby would ensure that is not the case in 2026.
Los Angeles may have a solid foundation for another playoff run in 2026. After all, the offense reclaimed its former glory by tweaking a wide receiver-centric offensive strategy for that of multiple tight ends. But as was the case after 2019, NFL defenses will eventually find countermeasures.
Crosby on the Niners roster is a nightmare for LA, as it elevates their pass rush to a new level. Not even MVP Matthew Stafford can carve apart a secondary if he is running for his life.
Facing elite pass rusher Maxx Crosby twice a year is the stuff that will give head coach Sean McVay nightmares. Hopefully, he will land on a team not competing in the NFC West Division. LA's offensive line is good, but this is a test they may not pass.
As always, thanks for reading.
