CJ Daniels took two practices to fuel his case as Rams' latest Day 3 draft gem

The Los Angeles Rams are back in camp as they gear up for 2026. They appear ready to roll after making a flurry of big moves to enrich their already healthy Super Bowl hopes.

Puka Nacua and Davante Adams form a dangerous 1-2 combo at receiver, but there's no telling who will snag the WR3 role. Camp and preseason will allow someone to stand out, and rookie receiver CJ Daniels wasted no time doing so.

In just his second practice with the team, Daniels was a standout, making plenty of plays with the second-team offense. Call his first impression a positive one.

CJ Daniels is already turning heads at Rams practice

Daniels put on a show during Monday's practice session, catching nearly "everything thrown his way" from quarterback Stetson Bennett. The rookie wideout drew high praise from all corners, including head coach, Sean McVay:

"I'm excited about CJ, and he'll be another guy, when you talk about the importance of the preseason, he'll be a guy I'm looking forward to watching play and obviously in these practice settings as well," McVay said.

The Rams gave up picks 207, 251, and 252 to move up to 197 to select Daniels in the sixth round. While many fans don't expect much from late Day 3 selections, Los Angeles has consistently found gems under McVay and general manager Les Snead. The list includes Nacua, running back Kyren Williams, and safety Quentin Lake, to name a few.

Daniels could join the list if he keeps this up. Although he may not be a burner, he's a smooth separator with secure hands. He knows how to attack coverage and use leverage to his advantage.

Daniels was a one-year starter at Miami in 2025, where he posted 50 catches for 557 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He also made stops at LSU and Liberty, adding another 148 receptions, 2,439 yards, and 21 scores in five seasons there.

There's a ton of football left to be played between now and Week 1, but Daniels and the Rams offense are off to a fantastic start.

The WR3 race is wide open, with Jordan Whittington likely the leader in the clubhouse now. If Daniels continues to stand out in practice, it'll only be a matter of time until he's fighting for reps with the first team. The Rams are no strangers to finding Day 3 diamonds. Daniels appears en route to be the latest.
