Dan Orlovsky explains why quarterback shouldn’t be in the Rams draft plans

The Los Angeles Rams have been linked to quarterback prospects ahead of the 2026 Draft, but Dan Orlovsky thinks selecting a QB would be a bad idea.

As the 2026 NFL Draft nears, quarterback has emerged as a position the Los Angeles Rams could use an early draft pick on. While Matthew Stafford has committed to another season as the team’s quarterback, he doesn’t have much time left in his career, and the Rams haven’t found a successor yet for the MVP. That’s why there’s a case for Los Angeles to select a QB in the first two days of the draft.

NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky can’t get on board with that plan for the Rams. In a recent episode of NFL Live, the former quarterback argued that Los Angeles’ mindset should be “Super Bowl over future.”

Orlovsky emphasized that L.A. was a play, or player away from beating the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship game. Therefore, the Rams should invest their picks in players who can be immediate contributors to help close the gap.

Rams encouraged to priotize Super Bowl window over finding future quarterback

Orlovsky went on to say that Los Angeles really needs a quality corner, possibly two, and a speed edge rusher. Since the Rams are currently equipped with two first-round picks and four total picks in the top 100, they could use those selections to add players who will help them get back to the Super Bowl.

That approach would be much more helpful in the immediate future, as opposed to drafting a guy to develop on the bench. However, if the Rams can win another Super Bowl, no one will care, and the franchise will just have to figure out the future of the quarterback position later.

If Los Angeles agrees with Orlovsky’s take, that means a guy like Ty Simpson will be off the team’s board. Simpson has already emerged as QB2 in the 2026 Draft class, and after the Combine, many draft experts believe he’s a lock for the first round.

While several quarterback-needy teams could use Simpson, the Rams were frequently being named as a landing spot, with eyes toward the future. Ultimately, draft night will tell if Los Angeles agrees with the draft analyst linking the team to Simpson or Orlovsky.
