NFL history proves that when it comes to the NFL All-Time Single Season Receiving Yards records, it behooves one to be on the receiving end of veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. The reason? Both Calvin Johnson in 2012 and Cooper Kupp in 2021 set their mark of receiving yards by catching passes thrown by Stafford. And for that matter, rookie WR Puka Nacua holds the NFL All-Time Rookie Receiving Yards record.

He was on the receiving end of catches thrown by Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford in 2023.

Is Davante Adams next in line to flirt with the NFL All-Time Single Season Receiving Yards record? Why not? He is currently 41st on the list with 1,563 receiving yards set in 2021 with the Green Bay Packers. While Davante Adams has a bit more mileage on him as he pivots to the 2025 NFL season, he has consistently gotten over 1000 receiving yards for the past five NFL seasons. And when you mix an elite veteran wide receiver with an elite veteran quarterback, good things are bound to happen.

So it was less about boastful attention-seeking that prompted Davante Adams to share that he is confident that he can get 2,000+ receiving yards in this Los Angeles Rams offense.

But only if the team needs him to do so, that is.

One football, many weapons

While Davante Adams answered the question posed by NFL celebrity Kay Adams directly, he was mature enough to qualify his response in two very important ways. For starters, he immediately launched into explaining that he loves to see success from his teammates, an answer that says more 'we, not me,' than the question originally intended.

But he also inserted the Alpha male confidence factor that is undeniable. He stated 'if the team needs me to.' In that response, he earned the respect of his coaches and teammates, addressing the pledge that if the team needs heroics, he is man enough to step up. For a veteran who has averaged 9.4 touchdowns and nearly 1,077 receiving yards per year for 11 NFL seasons, he has proven to multiple teams in multiple offenses that he can be counted on to deliver.

The Rams offense is spinning off in multiple directions in 2025. At some point in time, the team will need to count on an offensive player to pull off a win, change the momentum of the game, or simply step up. And by Davante Adams stating matter-of-factly in the Rams offense: "I feel like I can get 2K (receiving yards)," he is putting everyone on notice.

You can count on me.

As always, thanks for reading.
