Los Angeles Rams fans want to see signs that the team is improving. Raw evidence that confirms or refutes those conclusions is hidden away from the view of supporters. As a result, evidence of growth or regression only comes through coaches and team reporters, who sprinkle dribs and drabs of individual player performances into the ether.

Joint practices and scrimmages are exceptions to the rule. Since joint practices are periodic and not continuous, comparison in player performances offers fans, analysts, and interested parties a true measure of how players are trending. And with that performance coming amidst live football, coaches emerge with talking points that enhance future practices.

Some players showed up well in the first preseason scrimmage. Others did not. With a second joint practice scheduled with the New Orleans Saints, fans and team executives alike hope for answers to lingering questions. In short, will p[ayers who have impressed so far continue to do so?

Such as?

4 players to watch in Rams' joint practice with the Saints

4. Tight end Terrance Ferguson

Second-year tight end Terrance Ferguson has plenty of upside in his sophomore season. A true route runner, Ferguson was unable to get his feet set last season. With quarterback Matthew Stafford participating in training camp this year, Ferguson appears to be a full-service receiver in LA's offense.

Feguson made the roster. Now he's vying to become a workhorse on game day.

3. Defensive lineman Braden Fiske

Defensive lineman Braden Fiske has been somewhat overshadowed in his NFL career by former Florida State and Rams teammate Jared Verse. Now Verse is with the Cleveland Browns, and fans are eager to see how Fiske responds. So far, so good.

The Saints offer a new challenge and a new set of offensive linemen. Fiske must continue to adapt to new challenges.

2. Cornerback Jaylen Watson

The Dallas Cowboys press corps certainly made their receivers' molehill success seem like mountains in the aftermath of LA's first joint practice. While the Rams defense performed better than reports suggested, veteran cornerback Jaylen Watson needs to step up.

Saints receiver Chris Olave was an All-Pro Second Teamer last season. It will be Watson's task to neutralize him.

1. Wide receiver Davante Adams

Veteran wide receiver Davante Adams suffered the same dropsies that impacted Ferguson in 2025. But after a full training camp with Stafford, that seems to be in the rearview mirror. Still, the offense will suit up without Adams' counterpart in Puka Nacua. Can Adams shine with more pressure?

He should. His superpower is creating separation, insulating him from pre-snap motion to confuse coverage. And he certainly made the catches that counted, scoring 14 touchdowns in 14 games last season. He is operating at a much faster pace in camp this year.

Positive contributions will not be limited to these players, but they are the standard-bearers by which fans can gauge how well the team is progressing overall.

As always, thanks for reading.
