Despite warnings of inexperience, Rams are perfect landing spot for Ty Simpson

Some teams were gunshy over Ty Simpson's lack of experience. The LA Rams embrace that same quality.

Not all NFL draft analysts were sold on Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson's NFL readiness, particularly being selected with the 13th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. But general manager Les Snead trusts his own instincts, and he is sold on the fit of Simpson in the Los Angeles Rams' offense.

The bread crumbs for LA picking Simpson in Round 1 were everywhere. Need proof? We anticipated Simpson as a viable rookie prospect weeks ago, and as information surrounding Matthew Stafford, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Stetson Bennett continued to be updated, the urgency to select a future franchise quarterback became even more urgent.

And now, he is the first rookie selected to the Los Angeles roster:

Ty Simpson should not shock fans. ESPN NFL analyst Louis Riddick reported how LA loved him. NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky loved his tape, despite his lack of experience. Ultimately, Simpson ends up in the perfect NFL situation. He will have a season to sit, observe, and learn from starting quarterback Matthew Stafford.

In the process, LA has landed its future franchise quarterback.

2026 was always going to be the draft for Rams QB

The LA Rams are pragmatic. Despite a perception that the 2027 NFL Draft would be better stocked for rookie quarterbacks. But LA typically selects late, almost ensuring all worthy quarterbacks would be off the board. Los Angeles loves Ty Simpson, and he was on the board.

There were no valid reasons to look elsewhere.

No rookie is guaranteed. Not only does that hold for early selections who fail to meet expectations, but late selections who outperform their draft profiles. Kurt Warner loves this pick. Louis Riddick loves this pick. Dan Orlovsky jumped out of his seat to celebrate this pick. Fans will not see evidence of Simpson's fit for this offense for a year or two.

Conversely, fans will no longer face a vacated quarterback room at the end of this season. Because the team prescribed contracts to expire simultaneously at the end of 2026, fans knew that dramatic changes are coming. The first evidence of those changes has arrived. Stay tuned, more changes are coming.

As always, thanks for reading.
